Posted on Ma by Santi Tafarella. First thought. In The Blue Book, Wittgenstein is a little gentler. He concedes that the philosopher still has something to do. Introducing Wittgenstein (Totem ). Kelley, David. The Art of Reasoning (Norton ). Kolak, Daniel (tr.).

Not sure if this is frowned upon by proper philosophers, but I would totally recommend Ray Monk's biography Ludwig Wittgenstein: The Duty of Wittgenstein Genius (thanks u/doriangray42). He does a great job at introducing Wittgenstein's basic philosophical ideas (early and later) while putting them into the context of a turbulent and quite extraordinary life. The best introductions to philosophy, as recommended by the freelance philosopher and author of a 'Little History of Philosophy', Nigel Warburton. One way of reading the book is as a critique of Wittgenstein’s “family resemblance argument” about games. Wittgenstein says that there is no one thing in common that is shared by all games.

In Introducing Wittgenstein we meet a strange man: a rigorous logician who prized poetry above philosophy, who inherited an immense fortune and gave it all away, who sought death in the trenches of the First World War. he was the great teacher who advised his students to give up philosophy, a tormented soul who thrived on jokes and crime.

Wittgenstein is a difficult philosopher to read. I thought that a book with comics would turn his ideas easier to understand but I had some difficulty in understanding even the draws.

The idea of the book is great but I thing the problem is the story to tell: about Wittgenstein. He is very complex, his ideas more complex.4/5(10).

I love these Introducing/ for Beginners Books, and this one about Wittgenstein is no different. It is difficult philosophy to grasp, and the book does a glossing of it, but it's an excellent introduction to a very important philosopher. The book also does a good job painting the historical and biographical context of Wittgenstein's work/5.
